Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's attempts to gain mainstream fame were disastrous. Before any new material was released, two record labels signed but then removed Perry. However, in 2007, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted modest attention for its cheerfully flippant title track. Perry made more of a splash a few months later, with the single "I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual desire backed by a sharp electro-pop beat. The song caused controversy and some critics accused that it promoted homosexual relationships, and some asserting that the explicit sexual situation depicted in the song was intended to cater to male fantasies. I Kissed a Girl became the number one hit in the world due to the combination of titillation with a polished melodic tune. It also helped her sell a number of albums, including One of the Boys. Hot N Cold's sharp, energetic second single also proved well-loved. The album that Perry composed in large part sold over three million copies.
